Pedro Mascarenhas

Pedro Mascarengas is an experienced Brazilian sailor and sailing coach. With over 34 years of experience in the sport, Pedro has an extensive track record of success as both an athlete and a coach, excelling in various national and international competitions. In addition to his passion for sailing, he has a strong academic background, holding an Executive MBA in Finance and an Executive MBA in Business Management, as well as a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration.

Pedro began his coaching career in 1996 and has since gained extensive experience training young sailors and high-performance teams. His key roles have included positions as Head Coach at the Rio Yacht Club in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and as a coach at the Coral Reef Yacht Club, Palmer Trinity High School and USODA. Pedro is currently the Sailing Manager and ILCA Head Coach at Key Biscayne Yacht Club in Miami. His work involves preparing teams for major championships, such as the ILCA World Championships and continental Optimist championships, where he has achieved impressive results with athletes across various categories.

As a sailor, Pedro has also achieved remarkable accomplishments, competing in classes such as Optimist, Snipe, ILCA, and J70, with titles that include Brazilian Championships and participation in World and continental championships. His expertise has led him to coach international competitions, representing U.S. teams in events such as the Optimist South American and North American Championships and the ILCA World Championships.
In addition to his work in sailing, Pedro has gained corporate experience, holding positions in finance and business development at several companies. This combination of sports and corporate skills makes him a versatile and dedicated professional, committed to developing young sailing talents and pursuing continuous improvement in the sport.

Bernart Gali Bou

ILCA Coach

Coach Bernat Gali Bou hails from Barcelona, Spain, where he competed in Optis and ILCA’s at the highest level of sailing. An avid competitor since he was 8yrs old, Bernat has an impressive track record in both fleets, although it was in the ILCA class where Bernat excelled the most with two National Championships titles, several top 20 finish at Worlds and Europeans, and an intense but brief pre Olympic career with the Spanish Olympic Development Program.

When he switched to coaching full time, Bernat developed an even stronger passion for the sport. After capping off his coaching career in Spain with many of his sailor’s achieving podiums in Optis and ILCA’s, both at National and International level, Bernat started his international career coaching the Myanmar ILCA National Team, followed by a year tenure in New Zealand coaching a number of fleets, a short collaboration with the Icelandic National Sailing Team and quick Summer gig in Connecticut before landing in Houston to take over the nationally recognized Lakewood Youth Sailing Program as the Head Opti Coach in 2015.

Since then, fast forward to this day, Bernat is the Performance ILCA Coach at Key Biscayne Yacht Club, a position he’s had for the last three years. Over the past 9 years, Bernat has an impressive coaching record that includes podiums at many IODA events, National Championships, many USODA events won and an incredible number of sailors qualified for the USNT. He’s coached in several International competitions in Holland, Great Britain, Italy, Germany, Spain, Argentina, USVI, Mexico, Canada and Antigua, to name a few, and has attended 5 IODA events in the past three years, including 3 IODA Worlds.

Juan Pablo Carranza

RWB Head Coach

Juan Pablo Carranza is an experienced Argentine sailing coach with more than 25 years of experience in competitive sailing and athlete development. As both a sailor and coach, he has dedicated his career to helping young athletes achieve success while fostering a lifelong passion for the sport.

As a competitor, Juan Pablo won multiple national championships in Argentina and competed at a high level in the Optimist, Laser, 29er, and other performance sailing classes. His experience as an athlete provides him with a deep understanding of the technical, tactical, and mental aspects of competitive sailing.

Throughout his coaching career, Juan Pablo has worked with leading sailing programs in the United States and South America, specializing in Optimist, ILCA, Club 420, 29er, and multihull classes. He has coached sailors who have gone on to qualify for national teams, win continental championships, and compete at world-class events.

Juan Pablo has been selected by the United States Optimist Dinghy Association (USODA) to coach U.S. sailors at international championships and development programs, including the USODA Development Team, the Horizons Program, and international Optimist events in Europe. These appointments reflect the trust and recognition he has earned within the sailing community for his coaching expertise and commitment to athlete development.

Known for his positive coaching style and personalized approach, Juan Pablo emphasizes technical excellence, tactical awareness, teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth. At Key Biscayne Yacht Club, he is committed to helping sailors build confidence, develop strong sailing fundamentals, and reach their full potential both on and off the water.

Aisling Sullivan

Lime Green/Green Fleet Coach

Coach Aisling grew up sailing out of the Chicago Yacht Club, where she quickly discovered her passion for racing as a junior sailor. That early foundation shaped both her competitive drive and her commitment to long-term athlete development.
 
As a junior sailor, Aisling won the Club 420 Triple Crown series. She finished 2nd place at the Orange Bowl Regatta, 2nd at C420 Nationals, and won both C420 Team Race Nationals and the Mid Atlantic Championship, earning a position in the C420 Hall of Fame.
 
Aisling was recruited to sail at Ivy League Dartmouth College, where she graduated with a degree in Psychology. During her collegiate sailing career, she helped lead Dartmouth to multiple top-five national finishes and served as Team Captain her senior year. Competing as both a women’s and open crew, Aisling earned recognition as an ICSA All-American, All-NEISA First Team, All-Ivy Women’s First Team sailor, and was named to the Crew of the Year watch list. 
 
Since graduating, Aisling has coached and managed several Optimist programs throughout the country. She has also worked with USODA as a Horizon Team Coach. Several of her past sailors have progressed to the USODA National Team and Development Team. She also continues to foster her own passion for racing by participating in the J70 class, Melges 15 class, Match Racing, and Team Racing. 
 
Aisling has a strong passion for working with Optimist sailors and building their foundation for a lifelong sailing career. She has a strong interest in performance psychology, which she integrates into her coaching to help young sailors build confidence, resilience, and strong decision-making skills on and off the water.
She is excited to continue racing and coaching, and looks forward to supporting Green Fleet sailors as they develop both technically and mentally.

Salvatore Casciola

Learn to Sail (Prams)

Salvatore Casciola was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina, before moving to the United States in 2012. Currently a senior in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program at Coral Gables Senior High School, he is set to graduate with the class of 2025.

Salvatore’s passion for sailing began upon his arrival in Miami, where he spent nearly 12 years at the Coconut Grove Sailing Club (CGSC). Coming from a family deeply rooted in the sport, his father coached the Argentina Olympic Youth Team for the 2010 Singapore Games, and his sister is a Green Fleet coach at CGSC. Salvatore competed in the Optimist class at a national level, particularly during the COVID-19 period.

After transitioning from Optimist sailing, he pursued his other passion—youth soccer—playing at the first-division level and representing the state of Florida in regional and national competitions. Unfortunately, a knee injury forced him to step away from soccer, leading him back to sailing in a new capacity.
Salvatore began coaching C420s at CGSC, serving as both a development coach and an assistant racing coach. In this role, he applies his extensive knowledge of sailing fundamentals and competitive racing to develop young sailors. Dedicated to fostering a love for the sport, he looks forward to seeing the next generation thrive on the water.

Lucas Pertierra

Learn to Sail (Prams)

I am a student at Florida International University with a passion for leadership, teaching, and helping others grow. As a sailing instructor at Key Biscayne Yacht Club, I have the opportunity to mentor sailors of all ages while creating a safe, positive, and encouraging learning environment. I hold multiple certifications, including U.S. Sailing Instructor Certification, CPR/AED, First Aid, and SafeSport Training, which allow me to teach and lead with professionalism and confidence. I take pride in having a strong work ethic and believe that the best leaders are those who continue learning while helping others succeed. My goal is to use my experiences, education, and passion for sailing to coach the next generation the same way my coaches did for me. 

Patton 

Windsurfing & Foiling Head Coach

Born and raised around Biscayne Bay, Patton began his sailing journey at a young age, learning the fundamentals in Optimist dinghies. As he entered high school, his passion shifted toward windsurfing, eventually competing at a national level and earning an invitation to the U.S. Nationals, as well as representing in the World Championships.

After years of competitive experience, Patton transitioned into coaching, working with young sailors and beginners at the Coral Reef Yacht Club. He later joined the Key Biscayne Yacht Club as one of the first coaches in the club’s developing windsurfing and foiling program.

Patton is especially passionate about introducing the next generation of sailors to the evolving world of foiling. He finds inspiration in seeing Miami’s sailing community embrace this exciting and fast-growing side of the sport. Grateful to have been mentored by Alex Morales who adapted through the sport’s transformation from fin to foil, Patton is excited to help continue that legacy—right here in one of the best sailing cities in the country.
