Sailing Camp Information

Have your child spend an unforgettable summer at the Key Biscayne Yacht Club Summer Program! We offer a Sailing and Explorers & Marine Camp. The Sailing Program offers Beginner Opti Sailing, Intermediate Opti Sailing, and Teen Sailing.

The KBYC Hobie Explorers & Marine Campers navigate to the mangroves and sandbars around Biscayne Bay. Our Explorers will learn about the environment and the sea life of Biscayne Bay through sailing adventures. Your youngest salts learn the basics of sailing through fun and play. Young sailors’ love for sailing is developed in a controlled and safe environment. Kids will sail as a group in the new Hobie Waves and V15.
Beginner Opti Sailing. Youths with little or no previous sailing experience take to this program like a duck to water. The youth gains confidence in learning to sail an Optimist single-handed. At the end of the course, the parents enjoy watching their child sail the Opti by themselves around an Olympic triangle.
Intermediate Opti Sailing. Sailors who have completed Beginner Opti Sailing or equivalent enjoy successfully completing intermediate and advanced instruction in boat handling. Sailors receive introduction to basic sailboat racing, including rules and tactics in Optimist dinghy.
Teen Sailing. Teens who wish to learn beginning and intermediate level instruction in Lasers, and Club 420s, and enjoy an abundance of interaction with others and having fun on the water.

COVID-19 GUIDELINES

We are implementing new policies to help us reduce the risk of infection and protect children and employees.

We will promote healthy hygiene practices like hand washing and the constant use of hand sanitizer at camp sanitation stations.
Our counselors will encourage social distancing through increased spacing, small groups, and limited mixing between groups.
All our counselors and sailing staff will receive training on health and safety protocols prior to opening camp.
We encourage anyone who is sick to stay home.

Important class information

Parents please arrive 10 minutes early on the first day of class to verify required paperwork. If you are unable to attend the first class, please call and make arrangements to have necessary forms faxed or dropped off at KBYC prior to the first day of class. On the first day, all sailing students must pass a swim test which includes a 25 yard swim and 2 minutes of treading water in normal sailing clothes. Sailing Students must bring a life jacket, towel and change of clothes to each class.
