The Club prides itself in its ability to stay close to its roots to "promote boating in all of its branches, to provide a meeting place for those interested in this sport and foster a spirit of helpfulness and good fellowship which will be a credit to our community". Many programs have been created to fit the needs of all ages. Brief descriptions are provided below.

In addition to these programs, the Club sponsors many races and regattas throughout the year. A major one is the South East Dinghy Championship held each spring. Kristoffer Sarmiento     Green Fleet Coach

My name is Kristoffer Sarmiento and I am a 25 years old sailing coach from Norway. I have lived in Florida for the past 17 years. I have been coaching at Key Biscayne Yacht Club since 2013. I have had the pleasure of coaching beginner, intermediate, and advanced sailors, however, my specialty is getting the beginner sailors up to the intermediate level. I am currently a student at Florida International University and Miami Dade College seeking my bachelors in Construction Management. I have been an avid kite-boarder for 10 years- in my third year of kite boarding I got 3rd place at the Kite Masters held at Miami Kitebording. My other hobbies are wakeboarding, snowboarding and mountain biking.

From 2010-2012 Mauricio worked as the center manger for SailLaser Miami, a division of Laserperformance, where he was responsible for all aspects of the centers operation. Upon arrival to Miami, Mauricio began competing in a number of major sailboat classes that actively sail on Biscayne Bay, including the J/24, Snipe, Etchells, 49er and recently the J/70. In the fall of 2012 Mauricio began coaching green fleet optimist. His sailors quickly found success, winning the majority of events they competed in including the 2013 and 2014 Green Fleet National Championships.
In 2014 Mauricio transitioned to coaching the optimist at the championship fleet level. Some of the major accomplishments sailors achieved at the championship level under his guidance include; qualifying for the USODA Team Trials (30 sailors in a single year), placing onto the USODA National Team, multiple age division wins and various regatta wins including 2016 National Champion.
Mauricio is a motivational coach and has the ability to connect with every sailor regardless of their ability or background. His love for the sport, passion for competition and team oriented approach make him a strong addition to the KBYC Coaching Staff.
